Close Encounters
You meet people on the street, and they tell you their stories. There's always a story when you have a camera in your hand. Some stories fill you with hope. Other stories leave you empty and depressed. This man, whose name I regretfully forgot, was a former advertising executive, whose life didn't quite turn out as planned. He spoke of past triumphs, but in somber tones laced with regret and sentimentality. It doesn't take a genius to see when someone's past has been replaced with new realities, that barely resemble the stories they are sharing with you when you're pointing your camera at them.
