The DIA will be holding a book signing today, that will feature not only photographers from the Motor City Muse exhibit, but a wide array of artists and photographers whose publications are connected to the city of Detroit. You can find them in the Albert and Peggy de Salle Gallery lobby, located just outside of the gallery space.
Bill Rauhauser will be signing copies of his latest publication, Bill Rauhauser: 20th Century Photography in Detroit: an expansive look at the photographers prolific 60 year career. A Detroit icon, Rauhauser's body of work has influenced an entire generation of photographers, faithfully recording the city of Detroit and its people.
German artist and photographer Karin Jobst will be signing her recent publication Detroit for John, Mary Lou and Mr Duke. With a refreshing and ethereal approach, Jobst sidesteps the familiar and redundant themes of "ruin" photography adopted by previous visitors and local urban explorers. Detroit for John, Mary Lou and Mr Duke, signals a new approach to documenting the evolving urban landscape of a city in search of itself.
Wayne State University Professor Danielle Aubert's will be signing copies of her recent publication Thanks for the View Mr. Mies: Lafayette Park Detroit. A book that focuses on Meis van der Rohe's Lafayette Park, a sprawling cluster of townhouses that lie in the shadow of van der Rohe's high-rise apartment towers. The publication includes the photographs of Corine Vermeulen and Karen Jobst, who will also be present for the book signing.
Michelle Andonian, Carlos Diaz and Corine Vermeulen will be signing copies of the DIA's 2011 exhibition Catalogue Detroit Revealed: Photographs, 2000-2010.
Artists and photographers will be available Saturday, December 15, 2012, from 2pm to 4pm.
