The Eagle has landed. Former astronaut Neil Armstrong passed away today. He was 82.
When I was 10 years old, I remember being hypnotized by his landmark step onto the lunar surface of the moon. Along with the famed Ali/Frazier fights of the seventies, no other telecast captivated the world like Apollo 11's historic landing on the moon. Despite the historical significance, Neil Armstrong bounced around the moons surface with the joyful exuberance of little boy let out of class for recess.
You often hear people remark how they remember exactly where they were, or what they were doing when they heard the news of JFK's assassination in 1963. The 1969 landing of man on the moon was one of those events. While Kennedy's death brought an entire nation to its knees, Neil Armstrong's first step onto the moon gave us the hope of possibilities that lie ahead.
