The Graffiti Writers Portfolio

It's official.  After nearly a decade of photographing graffiti art and culture in and around southwest Detroit, the Detroit Institute of Arts has purchased my portfolio consisting of 25 black and white prints.  The portfolio will now reside in the permanent collection of the museums  Prints, Drawings & Photographs collection

I've spent years obsessing about how I was ever going to complete this project, I can now finally breath a sigh of relief.  So much time and energy has been devoted to this project, that I have suffered the equivalent of "writers block" in regards to moving on to the multitude of other projects that have been swimming around in my head for the last decade. Whenever I would dabble in other projects, my focus would faithfully return to the comfort of photographing the graffiti writers of southwest Detroit.  It's the warm feeling you get when seeing an old and familiar friend.

Sincere thanks to all of the incredible people I have met and photographed as a result of this project, and to Nancy Barr at the DIA for taking interest in my work.

Onward and upward......
