Detroit Unleaded @ The Detroit Film Theatre

Director Rola Nashaf expands her award winning short film for her feature-length debut, a spirited and engaging comedy-drama set in a small, family-owned inner-city gas station, in Detroit, where a budding romance encounters unexpected obstacles. Forced to take over the family business after the unexpected death of his father, a young Lebanese-American man named Sami (actor E.J. Assi) finds himself saddled with a lifestyle he never wanted, interfering with his plans for college and complicating his budding romance with a beautiful and very proper woman (actor Nada Shouhayib). Exploring race relations, generational differences and economic problems with humanity and wit, Detroit Unleaded is a winningly modest landmark in a new wave of Arab-American filmmaking and one of the year's most welcome directorial debuts.

The film won the Discovery Award at the Toronto International Film Festival. (92 minutes)
