I was downtown last week with my wife and it was a hot muggy day, so we ducked into the Starbucks to get an iced tea and glom some of their air conditioning. When we sat to drink our coffees I noticed that the table had been branded with the following…"RECLAIMED URBAN WOOD."
It's painful enough, that collectively, we allow ourselves to be gullible enough to be hoodwinked into paying five dollars for a cup of "venti" coffee (I always ask for large, just to keep it real), but "reclaiming" urban wood? The marketing geniuses at Starbucks must really think their customers are stupid, which if I dwell too long on that thought, I would have to admit that they're probably correct on that assumption, we are stupid.
If I had the money or time, I'd love to invest in a branding iron and boldly re-brand the table. It would read, "RECLAIMED GENTRIFIED WOOD."
